2017 Plans

Hey Everyone!

I've had a lot of inquiries already about the upcoming plans/availability for the new year!

I have gone through my message from the athletic coordinator at ACSS and looked over the available dates so far. Unfortunately there is only one available date in the beginning of January however, we should be able to run in full swing from February on-wards.

This means that the Womens 6s Winter season will have to be a bit shorter than expected, and only run for about 8 weeks total (starting February 2, 2017) before we then start up the Spring Co-ed Reverse 4s League (most likely March 30, or April 6, 2017).

This is all I will be posting for now until the new year but please do check back as I will update accordingly if need be.

In the meantime, please gather your teams and email (lindsaywatts07@gmail.com) or text (604-218-1202) me to reserve your spot. Please include your team name, and as much of a roster as possible at this time.

Happy Holidays!

Upcoming Month!

Hey Ladies,

I want to mention a few things as we come to the close of the Fall 2016 season!

I have spoken with the athletic coordinator at ACSS and she informs me that for this season we can have the gym until Thursday November 24, 2016. It is possible we can have it after that as well, but she won't know for sure for another few weeks based on the school scheduling/plans.

That being said, I plan on running two more weeks of regular play, and then we will have the playoffs (A and B pool) on consecutive weeks.

I have also had a request to post a two week schedule so that teams can better coordinate their lives! The only reason I wasn't doing this before is because each week I was re-ranking teams, however I have no problem changing it up for the future and just re-ranking every two weeks or so instead.

So here is the schedule for the following two weeks of regular play:

Thursday November 3, 2016:
645-8pm
Court 1
Impact vs. Sambuca
Impact vs. I'd Hit That

Court 2
I'd Hit THat vs. Eliminators
Sambuca vs. Eliminators

815-930pm
Court 1
Marika vs. Lindsay
Marika vs. Ball Busters

Ball Busters vs. Barely Legal
Lindsay vs. Barely Legal

Thursday November 10, 2016
645-8pm
Court 1
Sambuca vs. I'd Hit That
Sambuca vs. Marika

Court 2
Marika vs. Ball Busters
I'd Hit That vs. Ball BUsters

815-930pm
Lindsay vs. Marika
Lindsay vs. Barely Legal

Barely Legal vs. Eliminators
Marika vs. Eliminators

Thanks!

Hey Ladies,

Just wanting to clarify a few things things week after receiving some feedback:

-Gym doors CLOSE at 9:40pm
These hours are dictated by the school/custodial contract we have arranged.

-First set of games start no later than 7pm
-Second set of games start no later than 820pm

-You will receive 0 if you do not record your scores

-Court 1 is the court furthest from the main entrance (closer to the equipment room)
-Court 2 is the court closest to the main entrance

Schedule for this week, October 13, 2016, will be as follows:
Court 1:
650pm I'd Hit That vs. Marika
730pm I'd Hit That vs. Barely Legal

Court 2:
650pm Barely Legal vs. Impact

Court 1:
820pm Sambuca vs. Lindsay
9pm Sambuca vs. Eliminators

Court 2:
820pm Eliminators vs. Ball Busters
9pm Lindsay vs. Ball Busters

After receiving complaints last season about "rushing between sets", or "having no time to plan strategy", I would like to remind all members that it is up to you to be mindful of start times (I do not want to be called a drill sergeant again).

I can reconsider (if I get enough feedback) about doing timed games instead of points to 21 (i.e. blowing a whistle when time is up, and when your start time is) however, this causes a lot of discrepancy between accumulation of points for the overall standings, but if this the general preference then I will oblige.

In the meantime to help keep games on time here are some tips:
-Shag the ball as soon as the play is dead
-Keep water bottles near your court so you can replenish with little delay
-Check the schedule upon arrival to know exactly which court you need to switch to (I will also start posting the detailed scheduled - as above - to help out)
-Warm up quickly and efficiently (i.e prioritize whether you want more time for hitting vs. serving vs. peppering, etc.)

Lastly, I would like to offer a HUGE THANK YOU to all the members who very generously participate in setting up and taking down the nets on a regular basis! It does not go unnoticed and your efforts are very much appreciated!! :)

See you all Thursday!
Thanks!

P.s. There will be no volleyball Thursday October 20, 2016 as the school is hosting a game.

Week 3: September 29, 2016

Thank you to everyone for getting their full team payments submitted this week! I have submitted our donation to Aldergove Community Secondary School! :)

Unfortunately since time is still a bit of a constraint, I think it is best that from this week forward we play sets to 21 instead, as the rallys seem to be lasting longer and longer (which is a good thing)!

Also, please be sure to report your scores after every match. Mark does his best to try and keep an eye out as matches are finishing up, but he doesn't always notice in time, plus there will be weeks where he may not be there. From now on, if you do not report your scores, it will be recorded as zero.

That being said, the schedule for this week will be as follows:

645pm to 8pm:
-Barely Legal
-Eliminators
-I'd Hit That
-Sambuca

815pm to 930pm:
-Marika
-Impact
-Lindsay
-Ball Busters

See you all Thursday!

Thanks!

Week 2 Schedule

Hey Ladies,
Thank you for a great first week!

A couple things to touch on:

-We have the gym from 645 - 930pm. I am still uncertain if this means we can START at 645, or if the doors are open at 645. This will become more clear as the weeks progress, but please continue to on time to get your own warm-ups in as timing is always a struggle. As always, please be mindful and respectful if there are high school activities underway upon your arrival.

-Only 3 teams have paid in full (Lindsay, Ball Busters, Sambuca). If you do not have your full teams payment this week, you will NOT be allowed to play.

-Any new team members must also sign and submit the waiver form PRIOR to playing in this gym

And finally, here is  this weeks scheduled for Thursday September 22, 2016:

645-8pm:
Lindsay
Sambuca
Eliminators
Marika

815-930pm:
Ball Busters
I'd Hit That
Impact
Barely Legal

See yah!

Hey Ladies,
I have received confirmation that we are good to run womens 6s on Thursdays again at Aldergrove Community Secondary School. We have been given the gym from 645pm to 930pm starting Thursday September 15, 2016.

Please gather your teams and send me an email ASAP to confirm a spot in the league :)

Updates!

Hey Everyone,

Hope everyone's summer is going well! September is fast approaching so I thought I would give a brief update on potential plans for the upcoming year.

Sounds like the gym should be available Thursday nights from 630pm-930pm starting in September until about mid November so I expect to run Womens 6s (if we get the interest again).

As far as running a winter season starting in January, we won't know until late November (depends if ACSS runs a basketball program or not - they get first priority) if there will be any gym space for us.

And then, come March, it sounds like there will be space again for us until June which I will plan to run the co-ed R4s again.

I am still waiting to find out if I can get multiple nights a week for either season (R4s on one night, and womens 6s on another night), so I will update when I know more.

That is all for now! Please start to gather your teams, and let me know if you would like a spot!

THANK YOU! (& brief next season plans)

Thank you so much to all four teams for making our first attempt at running Co-ed Reverse 4s turn into an epic spring season!

I plan to stay in touch with the athletic director at ACSS and it sounds like she is going to try to get us more gym time (i.e. more nights a week), which hopefully means that, come fall season, I will be able to run both Womens 6s as well as Co-ed Reverse 4s (no idea which nights will be available yet, or how many hours per night).

I will continue to post updates here as they come so feel free to check back periodically, but otherwise, enjoy your summer!

R4s Success!

Thank you to all of you who were able to get your teams together and make the 1st week out an absolute success! We were really happy with the caliber of play so we are excited for future weeks!

I am trying to give people some more time to see if they have gotten any more teams together before I post this weeks schedule, so I apologize in advance for the short notice (if we don't get any additional teams though, expect to play at 7pm again).

A few gentle reminders:
-Waivers MUST be signed and submitted to Mark or myself BEFORE you play in this gym (you can copy and paste from the link)

-Please have your entire teams payment ready before submitting to us ($100 per team)

-We MUST be out of the gym by 945pm, no exceptions! In fact, the earlier, the better.

Anyway, that is all for now. Please check back again on Thursday in case the schedule needed to be adjusted to accommodate more teams.

Thanks!

Spring Co-ed R4s Season Begins!

Hey Everyone,
Co-ed R4s League is definitely a go! - Thanks to all of you who signed up!

As of this moment, I have four teams to play tomorrow, Thursday, March 31, 2016. The gym doors are supposed to be opened for us at 6:45pm, and games will start at 7pm.  You will play two teams, best of three, 25-25-15 (win by 2, cap 31 & 21). We MUST be out of the gym by 945pm. THIS IS A MANDATORY REQUIREMENT BECAUSE OF THE CONTRACT WITH THE CUSTODIAL STAFF. This means that games may need to be cut short if we do not start/finish in a timely fashion.

The gym is located at Aldergrove Community Secondary School, off of 264 and 29th Ave, and we have it until Thursday June 16, 2016. The cost for the season will be $100 per team ($25 per player). Also, please make sure each member signs and submits a waiver before playing!

I do have interest from a 5th team of all girls (they would have to designate two players as male), and potentially two other pairs of two, to join the league. That being said, we will not run the league with an odd amount of teams (weird scheduling). If I can get two or four more teams confirmed before next Thursday, April 7, 2016, then I will add them into the schedule for next week and adjust the timing accordingly.

For now, we will see the following teams for 7pm tomorrow:
-Mark Watts
-Danika Schutte
-Chantal Bruce
-Marika Togeretz

As all R4s league tend to have slightly different rules, I thought I would go ahead and list off a few of the specifics that we will be playing with:
-No open-hand tipping

-No directional blocking
-Guys cannot jump inside the three metre line during an attack (only to block another male)
-Guys cannot block girls
-When setting the ball across the net your shoulders must be square to where the ball lands
-If a guy is inside the 3m line, they must put the ball beyond the opposing teams 3m line
-One bounce off of the rafters/hoops is allowed as long as it does not cross the plane of the net

-No net touching what so ever...EVER!

Anyway, I hope I've touched on everything! Please let me know if there is anything further that needs to be addressed, otherwise we will see you at 7pm tomorrow!

Spring 2016 Plans

I have had a few questions in the last few days about plans for Spring 2016. So far, here is where I am at:

We will most likely be running Co-ed Reverse 4s. I am hoping to run it as a "league" that you must register a team for but if we can't get enough committment then we might have to run it on a "drop-in" basis. Even if we do run it as a "drop-in" though, you will still be required to "sign up" each week, so that I know what the numbers are like, and whether or not I need to break it up into the two time slots.

All that being said, if you are interested in continuing to play in Spring 2016 please let me know one of the following:

A) You have a full team of 4 (two guys, two girls) and are interested in registering as a team so that we can play "league style"

B) You are an individual guy or girl or "portion" of a team who is looking to have a complete team (two guys, two girls) so we can play "league style"

C) You are an individual looking to play periodically as a sub (if it ends up being "league style"), or are looking for a drop-in basis.

I need to try and get an idea of how many teams I can run with/if I need to reach out to more people, as well as how to break up the time each week. Also, if you are looking to complete a team, please feel free to post in the comments below with your name and some contact info so that people can reach out.

Look forward to hearing from you guys! :)

I will do another post once registration officially opens :) next week sometime
